JiWon Kim/ a persuasive essay/ Tue 9am

According to a recent survey, in Korea, the price of the songs is cheap at twice the price than other countries. However, there are many people that illegally download songs online. And also they do movies, TV programs and dramas! So people do not wait for release date of albums and movies or search for TV listings any more. Instead, they get them easily from internet website at no charge. I guess that these people know illegal downloading is a crime, but they think it is not such a serious crime. However, it is a real problem in our society.

First, we become immune to steal a property of others. If we bring goods from supermarket without paying, we will be charged with theft. Like this, "Copyright" is also a kind of precious possession of artists. So we want to add songs to our lists, we should pay correctly. In fact, these days, the press creates the atmosphere that encourages people to download songs or movies legally and recognize copyright. It is called "Good downloader campaign". In this way, we should kick this bad social habit and prevent it from spreading.

Next, illegal downloading makes it difficult for artists to offer better work. Many artists express dissatisfaction because they don't get reward for their work. If this continues, they lost desire to produce works and as a result, our contents market will decrease. It means we cannot enjoy many songs or movies.

Nowadays, Korean wave is sweeping the world and many countries start to interest in Korean contents. So it is important for creators to make works with good quality, to do so, their rights should be protected. Therefore, the government should consider a way to stop and punish illegal downloading and people also need to show continued attention.

  1. In the first sentence, you mean the price of songs in Korea is "half" the price of songs overseas, right? It was also interesting of you to make a comparison between intellectual property and goods from the supermarket. I feel the same way as you do about downloading illegally from the Internet, but I think the situation in Korea, especially, has gotten to a point where it's almost impossible to be turned back. Good job :)

  2. Your writing was interesting. At the introduction of the paragraph, you start well with the recent Korea's problem with the price of song. Also the first paragraph of your body gives big impression to me. You use very appropriate word like precious possesion.
But it was little bit sad that your writing are only composed of two paragraph of body. Also your starting two paragraph are too long for other two paragraph. It would be much better if you balance the longevity of the paragraph.
