Joung Hwan Park / Leisure Time / Tue 9am

A person looking to buy a jacket goes and checks out a store at Myeong-dong. A few days later that person goes to Apgujeong and sees the exact same jacket for a lower price. Now, it becomes obvious where that person will buy the jacket. The same applies for time. If a task could be done in the same way, but a lot quicker, then people would prefer the option of saving time. Saving time has become a key factor in today's society as more people get busy and more things happen simultaneously, but the question is why people are still so caught up with work despite many timesaving devices that are available for them to use. Thus, saving time on other things would mean leisure time becomes more available.

Leisure time is a very desirable option to consider acquiring for anyone at any age. As competition in schools and society become more fierce, the amount of people fighting to be in the race are increasing, but the amount of leisure time that are supposedly there for them to enjoy are decreasing. Leisure time is a great way to get away from all the stress and pressure, and give the body and soul some peace of mind. However, as it is for everything in society, money is necessary for everything. Leisure time is also part of that everything which require money to be spent; thus, working less and enjoying more leisure time has the downside of giving people pressure in terms of money being spent consistently in satisfying their growing need for leisure time, because leisure time isn't always free.

If a person had enough money to spend and all the time in the world, he or she wouldn't mind sitting around at home or travelling around the world and enjoying a lifetime of leisure. Now, considering how the definition of leisure time would vary depending on each person, it would be quite hard to make a generalization on how to enjoy leisure time. Hence, a person might sit around the house eating snacks all day and call that leisure time, whereas another person might enjoy outdoor activities and call that leisure time. However, I personally think that if a person considers leisure time as sitting around and eating snacks all day, it would be better for their physical and mental health to go outside and do something else productive, because leisure time and laziness don't go together.

People wish to live life to the fullest and one possible option they might consider is working their butts off until they retire, without much leisure time of course, and then hope their post-retirement life would be full of leisure time and enjoyment. If this is so, then people might not actually be able to enjoy their life to the fullest because of limitation that follow as people get older. Ageing is something that needs to be taken into consideration because everyone is bound to age as time passes. Hence, I think it's important for people to balance out their leisure time well, so that they can literally live life to the fullest and not regret having missed a chance to do something later on.

Too much of anything isn't always a good thing to have and I believe this also applies to work and leisure time. Too much work would give you stress and too much leisure time might make someone lazy. Hence, my recommendation would be to balance out the amount of work and leisure time, so that life becomes productive and enjoyable at the same time. Therefore, my last work to you is this. Work, play and live!
