Future Careers

Unlike past when people stay in the first job until retirement, people nowadays change their jobs frequently. According to a survey, employees aged below 40 will highly likely to change their job at least three times on average in their lifetime. This implies that there is a strong need for me to contemplate on future jobs I will be working at as well as abilities required for each job. Considering these, it narrowed down into three occupations: a diplomat, a translator, and a professor.

A job I would like to consider first and foremost is a diplomat. To become a diplomat, proficient language ability and outstanding interpersonal skill are required. Since a diplomat generally stays in other country on behalf of the government, English and the language of the country he/she is in charge is a necessity. Further, interpersonal skill is crucial because building and maintaining a good relationship between the officials of the country in charge may culminate in enhancing a relationship between the two countries. Thus, equipping with these skills should be a priority when becoming a diplomat.

When I finish my career as a diplomat, I would like to become a translator. Translator here refers to a person who renders messages from one language into another language in written text. As well as language ability, the most important skill needed for a translator is attention to detail. Unlike interpreting which is mostly done verbally, translating is dealt with written form of text. Therefore, it is critical not to overlook key words or phrases and render them appropriately. The second important factor for a translator is responsibility. Meeting deadline by managing the time properly is significant when it comes to developing trust between clients. These skills must be pondered on becoming a translator.

Afterwards, I would like to be teaching as a professor. Being a professor asks not only wide latitude of academic knowledge I engage in but also a various range of academic fields. To keep motivated by curiosity about academic issues will contribute to conveying knowledge and thoughts to the students. In addition to it, excellent communication skills, verbal skills in particular, are essential. Giving a lecture is mostly held in verbal form of communication and how explicit and clear a professor can relay the message mainly affects the understanding of students. Thus, those skills influence huge impact on qualification of a professor.

To put a nutshell, I am highly interested in pursuing my career as a diplomat, a translator, and a professor. It is no more valid statement of having a so-called 'iron rice bowl' job nowadays. People will be in need of searching another job to extend their career a few times at least. In a sense, it will be worth to meditate deeply on your future careers in the near future.

  1. First of all, I am very interested in your essay. But I think your essay contains too much things. You should focus one career then write your five-paragraph classification essay about abilities you possess for your only one job. And I think the classification essay is differentiated from processing essay. But your essay is a kind of processing essay. So I think it makes me so confusing. But your essay is high level writing, and each body paragraph includes a distinct category. And the supporting details for each paragraph are sufficient. So if you just correct your essay a little, it will be much better.

  3. It is very nice essay and very readable. However it was hard to find required skills at a glance. It would be better if you rearrange the contents and make it as a classification essay.
