All You Need for Birthday

Chicken soup for the soul? No, it is sea mustard soup for birthday boys and girls! Traditionally in Korea, people have eaten sea mustard soup and celebrated birthdays. Thus, Koreans may think like something's missing if they do not have the soup for their birthdays. To celebrate my friends' and loved ones' birthday, I sometimes make them the most delicious sea mustard soup on my own with the following recipe.

Needless to say, fresh ingredient is one of the most important things to the taste of every food, and you have to buy fresh sea mustard which is the main ingredient of the soup. But, I cannot tell exactly which sea mustard is fresher than others, especially when it is raw one. In addition, it's not always easy to get raw one, so I would just go to one of super supermarkets and pick up any dried sea mustard that I first come to find. Even though I acknowledge that raw one is much better in taste, I can bring out the best taste without it. One ingredient, which cannot be replaced with anything else, determines the taste: beef. I always try to choose fresh beef with the adequate amount of fat as well as deep and bright red color. It is very convenient if you buy a handful of beef that are already sliced.

After getting all the ingredients needed, it is very easy and simple to cook very delicious sea mustard soup. Before getting started, soak the dried sea mustard in water for about 20 minutes, so that it gets swollen into the original shape. Next, rinse the soaked sea mustard several times before putting it in a big enough pot. And then, add some sesame oil and start to stir-fry them for five minutes or so. Make sure that you keep the flame set of your gas stove at a medium heat. All this process so far is to remove the fishy smell from the sea mustard that all seafood naturally has.  After this, add black pepper and stir-fry the bite-sized beef until it's medium rare.

Now, everything is prepared, and it's time to really make the soup. Pour clean water into the pot to the point where the sea mustard and beef are all sunk under the water surface and adjust the gas stove up to high heat. When it begins to boil, turn down the gas a bit and add some salt to taste or soy. I recommend you to season with salt because soy makes the soup looks little black. Finally, keep the soup boil for about a couple of minutes before you have it!

You might notice that it sounds very easy to make yummy sea mustard soup: just stir-fry sea mustard and beef in order, boil and season them. Simple as it seems, I'm pretty sure that the taste will be perfect. Everyone whom I have served the sea mustard soup loved it and sometimes was not willing to believe that I really made the soup all by myself. I think that sea mustard soup is more than just any kind of food or present for birthdays. By making your loved ones the delicious and healthy soup, you can make their birthdays one of the happiest moment in their life.

    All You Need for Birthday

Chicken soup for the soul? No, it is sea mustard soup for birthday boys and girls! Sea mustard is a kind of sea weed only found and eaten in Asian region and highly nutritious. Traditionally in Korea, people have made the soup with sea mustard soup and served others for their birthdays. To celebrate my friends’ and loved ones’ birthdays, I myself sometimes make them the most delicious sea mustard soup with the following recipe.

Needless to say, fresh ingredients are some of the most important things to the taste of every food, and you have to buy fresh sea mustard, the main ingredient of the soup. But, it is hard to tell exactly which sea mustard is fresher than others, especially when it is raw sea mustard. In addition, it’s not always easy to find any conventional market selling something raw, so I prefer going to one of super supermarkets and pick up any dried sea mustard just after checking the shelf life. Even though I acknowledge that raw one is much better in taste, I can bring out the best taste without it. One ingredient, which cannot be replaced with anything else, determines the taste: beef. I always try to choose fresh beef with the adequate amount of fat as well as deep and bright red color. It is very convenient if you buy a handful of beef that are already sliced and packed.

After getting all the ingredients, it is very easy to cook very delicious sea mustard soup. First of all, soak the dried sea mustard in water for about 20 minutes, so that it gets swollen into the original shape. The quantity of dried sea mustard depends on the number of person you are serving, and one fist-sized roll of it would be enough for three to four people. Next, rinse the soaked sea mustard several times before putting it in a big enough pot. And then, add two tablespoons of sesame oil and start to stir-fry them for five minutes or so. Make sure that you keep the flame set of your gas stove at a medium heat. All this processes so far are to get rid of the unpleasant fishy smell from the sea mustard which all seafood naturally has. After this, add the bite-sized beef seasoned with half a teaspoon of black pepper and stir-fry them until the beef is medium rare.

Now, everything is prepared, and it is time to really make the soup. Pour clean water into the pot to the point where the sea mustard and beef are all sunk enough under the water and adjust the gas stove up to high heat. When the water begins to boil and is becomes green, turn down the gas a bit. Before seasoning the soup, taste it a bit and figure out how much salt or soy sauce would be good. I recommend you to season the soup with salt since soy is likely to change the green color, which looks delicious, into black. Finally, keep the soup boil for about a couple of minutes. Serve the soup with warm boiled rice to those who celebrate birthdays.

You might notice that it sounds very easy to make yummy sea mustard soup: just stir-fry sea mustard and beef in order, boil and season them. Simple as it seems, I’m pretty sure that the taste will be perfect. Everyone whom I have served sea mustard soup loved it and sometimes was not willing to believe that I really made the soup all by myself. In addition to the taste, sea mustard soup provides those served with something that any kind of food or present cannot give them. By making your loved ones the delicious and healthy soup, you can make their birthdays one of the happiest moments in their life.
