Minah Lee/Holiday/Tue9am

When my favorite holiday, Seol-Nal comes around, I would get excited to do typical holiday things. I remember that the joy of New Year 's Day when I was little was much more than the years after growing up. Still I meet my cousins and relatives on Seol-Nal, enjoy eating foods and have fun, but I miss the good old days when I did all these things.

Once the holiday came, everybody came to my grandma's house a day before the holiday and began preparing for holiday foods. My cousins and I were still young, so we just enjoy tasting the foods and those who did mostly errands. After talking and watching TV, we went out to bounce up and down on a big trampoline. With a little money, we enjoyed just enough time on the trampoline and headed to a nearby elementary school, jumping on the road as if we were still on it. School playground was a perfect stage for us to do some interesting games. We usually went back home around the time when setting sun was glowing.

After we had dinner, we were ready for playing 'catching ghosts' in the dark. The one who lost the toss became the catcher with the blanket on and had to catch ghosts in the dark. The blanket had covered the sight of the catcher, so the rest let the catcher know by touching him or clapping hands. Next, when the night got darker, we all went up to rooftop and listened to creepy ghost stories. Later, we all came down and slept together in a small room, watching movies on the TV.

Since I've grown up, I lost this pleasure and my cousins and I sometimes talk about the memories we shared on every holidays. I wonder when I could find these holiday memories again, but I am still looking forward to having them.

  1. Yes. I also think that Seol-Nal is good because same as you. I really like your body that goes like story. I read it straightly and it was very fun to read. Your conclusion make nostalgic. But It should be more better if you write one more paragraph. There shoud be five paragraph essay. I think it is important to do what we have to.

    1. 1. Does the essay have a thesis statement that identifies the process?
( Still I meet my cousins and relatives on Seol-Nal, enjoy eating foods and have fun, but I miss the good old days when I did all these things.)
-->The write's essay have a clear, one topic that identifies the process. your thesis statement includes all of your essay.

      2. Does the writer include background information? No. because Seol-Nal is one of the most famous holidays, So the write doesn't include backgroud information specifically. But it doesn't have problems to understand the essay.

      3. Does each paragraph present a different part of the process? YES. Each paragraph present a different part of the process about Seol-Nal. we can know the writer's Seol-Nal experiences step by step.

      4. Are the parts of the process organized in a logical sequence? Just like the first comment, the main topic is well organized according to chronological order. Furthermore, I read it straightly and it has a very impressive story.

      5. Do the body paragraphs have any facts, definitions, or details? The body paragraphs explain what process the writer enjoyed the holiday with her family, relative by. So the body paragraphs have many details about Seol-Nal's experiences.

      6. Does the writer include an evaluation, recommendation, or warning in the conclusion? The write includes an evaluation about Seol-Nal very well with her own experiences. I'm very sympathize about her feelings. The conclusion is so great!

  3. When my favorite holiday, Seol-Nal comes around, I would get excited to do typical holiday things. Seol-Nal is the first holiday of the year, maybe the biggest one to remember our forefathers, appreciate them and bless everyone’s new start. I remember that the joy of New Year’s Day when I was little was much more than the years after growing up. Still I meet my cousins and relatives on Seol-Nal, enjoy eating foods and have fun, but I miss the good old days when I did all these things.

On Seol-Nal, we all got up early and got ready for the ritual. After setting the table, men started to have a memorial service for ancestors, and then women did. After making deep bows to forebears, we bowed to our grandparents and relatives, and then got cash gifts with big smiles. Later, we ate breakfast and soon men went to the mountain where ancestors’ graves were. Women stayed at home, took some rest and prepared for lunch.
